The hand cards are used to achieve similar results to a drum carder, but are more affordable and more ideal for beginner and small scale fiber artists.

Combing fiber using these combs also helps to remove debris, resulting in a cleaner finished product. It is possible to spin directly from the combs, or a diz can be used to create hand-pulled top.
